SAT and antenna cable

SAT or antenna cable? Which of these two coaxial cables you choose depends on the connection type or reception type. If you want to transmit digital and analog TV and radio signals, you will need a corresponding antenna cable. SAT and antenna cables can be distinguished by the connector type. Antenna cables can be recognized by a coax plug, also known as an IEC plug. With a coax plug, you can receive both cable TV and DVB-T2. If, on the other hand, the transmission is to run via a satellite dish, you will need a satellite connection cable with an F connector.

In addition to the connector type, other cable properties also play a role when choosing the right coaxial cable. Shielding, attenuation, length, characteristic impedance and bandwidth must be selected according to the purpose.

Properties of a SAT and antenna cable

One important factor for optimum reception is the degree of shielding. The density of the shielding determines the extent to which the transmitted signals are disturbed or not. The same applies to outgoing signals and external devices. The shielding effectiveness is specified in decibels. The higher the shielding factor, the higher the shielding rate. The satellite cable for the TV should not fall below a minimum of 85 dB. For an antenna cable, it may also be less decibels, but at least 75 dB. Depending on the purpose, environment and interference potential, the shielding level can be up to 120 dB. However, the entire SAT connection cable is decisive, because the shielding factor can be as high as it is. If the other components are only average, even good shielding is useless. Attenuation, characteristic impedance and shielding also determine the quality of the SAT connection cable. A normal attenuation value is 30 dB per 100 meters at 2 GHz. The characteristic impedance, also known as impedance, is in the normal range at 75 ohms. SAT and antenna cables usually have double or quadruple shielding, which is completely sufficient. If the inner conductors are made of solid copper, you have an optimum cable for your purposes.

SAT connection cable, antenna cable - INTOS® Assortment

INTOS® offers you a selection of SAT and antenna cables in various designs. Whether 75 dB, 85 dB or 110 dB, as 2-way or 4-way shielded cables in various lengths, INTOS® is your cable specialist for SAT connection cables and antenna cables. These are available in the usual quality, made from solid copper, with shielding made from aluminum foil and aluminum braiding or in our premium version. The premium version is characterized above all by the gold-plated contacts, which are less susceptible to corrosion than silver or copper.

Our practical SAT connection cables with gold-plated contacts as well as silver contacts are a particular highlight. You can use the SAT connection cables to connect the SAT receiver to the antenna connection, for example. The angled SAT and antenna cables are just as useful. They are a space-saving variant that is suitable for tight installation environments. They also protect the cable from kinking due to the confined space and thus reduce its load.
