MCIO or Mini-SAS
MCIO cables (Mini Cool Edge IO) are designed for internal high-speed connections in server and storage systems. They transmit data via the PCIe standard and offer extremely high bandwidth in the x4 or x8 version - ideal for modern NVMe SSDs and high-performance system architectures.
Mini SAS HD cables, on the other hand, are used for the external connection of storage solutions. They are based on the SAS standard (Serial Attached SCSI) and use connectors such as SFF-8644 or SFF-8088. Depending on the version, they enable data rates of 6 Gb/s to 12 Gb/s - ideal for connecting RAID controllers with JBODs or expander enclosures.
In short: MCIO stands for internal PCIe high performance, Mini SAS HD for robust external storage connections based on SAS.
